Why these two together

This prototype exists to test whether the other two reconcile. The counter and kitchen designs quietly created loose ends — a released-unpaid order, an uncollected write-off, a void after send. All three have to land somewhere at 11pm when the owner counts the drawer.

One day is traced end to end: B18 collected clean, B21 released unpaid to a regular, B17 never collected, B22 voided after cooking. Screen 12 is where they have to add up — and every figure in this prototype is arithmetically consistent, so if it stops adding up the design is wrong, not the numbers.

Handover

The pass is a queue, not a search box. Ready orders are listed largest-number-first; staff tap the one the customer says. Typing a number during a rush is the thing to avoid.

Paid / unpaid is a badge on every row, before you open anything. The most expensive mistake at the pass is handing over unpaid food, so it is visible at list level, not one tap in.

Verification is one tap and always recorded (FD-HAND-2). Number-only is the default because it is what a roadside stall will use; name and phone-last-4 are there for higher-value orders. The point is that which was used is stored — that is what settles a dispute.

Release-unpaid is deliberately easy but never silent (FD-HAND-4). A gate staff cannot pass teaches them to mark orders paid falsely, which is worse. So: two taps, a reason, a named person, and a line at shift close.

FD-HAND-9 is still open and screen 7 shows why. If a customer takes the drink but the wrap is not ready, is the order collected? Drawn here as partially collected — stays open, board keeps the number. Needs a real decision.

Shift close

Expected cash is shown before counting, not after. Hiding it invites a staff member to count, see the target, and adjust. Showing it first is honest and the variance is the record either way.

Count by denomination, not one total. Nobody counts ₦102,900 in their head — they count notes. The pad mirrors what the hands are doing, and the arithmetic is the system's job.

Variance is attributed and never absorbed (FD-SHIFT-2). −₦500 against a named closer on a named shift. Unattributed shrinkage teaches nobody anything — that is the whole argument for the shift boundary being P1.

Screen 12 is the reconciliation test and it earned its place: the loose ends are not cash-neutral. ₦4,500 is owed, ₦6,000 of food was lost. Neither belongs in the drawer variance, and a close that folded them in would be wrong.

FD-SHIFT-6 drawn on screen 14: yesterday was never closed. Blocking today's trade is unacceptable, so the design is force-close with the gap recorded — the money is not recoverable, but the fact is.

The owner's surfaces are a phone, not the counter. FD-SHIFT-4 asks for a view "without interrupting the floor", and FD-LOC-8's multi-kitchen rollup is the whole justification for FD-DEC-2 option (b).

Open

Not designed: who chases the ₦4,500. A released-unpaid balance with no follow-up is just a slower write-off. Needs an owner and a screen.

Not tested: a close where the counted cash is higher than expected. Overage is as suspicious as shortage and has no screen here.
